Bosses can end working from home, but most haven’t




Employment lawyers say staff generally have no legal right to insist on working from home instead of a COVID-safe office.


But many Sydney employers are not exercising their right to force the return of staff following the recent outbreaks in Sydney’s northern beaches and inner west.

Slater and Gordon principal lawyer Andrew Rich said if it was understood that someone under an employment contract would work from an office and measures were put in place to ensure it was safe “then, in general, people will need to comply with that direction”.
