Tsunami warning after major earthquake strikes New Zealand

An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 hit New Zealand early on Friday morning, the United States Geological Survey said, triggering warnings of a possible tsunami from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC).
Tsunami waves were possible within 300 kilmetres of the quake’s epicentre, the PTWC said.
The earthquake comes just over a week since the country marked 10 years since a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Christchurch, killing 185 people and injured thousands more on Monday, February 22,in 2011.
