A woman has drowned after attempting to assist a distressed teen, marking the third death after separate tragedies in the state’s waters.

The woman in her 20s was among several members of the public who went to assist a teenage girl who was struggling in the water at Venus Bay on Wednesday evening.

Instead, the woman was pulled from the water by an off duty lifeguard and could not be revived.

All the other people who went to render assistance made it to shore safely, including the teen.
